Wright, Matthew

Matthew Wright

I moved to Piara Waters PS as a classroom teacher in 2013, in 2016 was appointed to the position of Deputy Principal and in 2017 to the position of Principal.

I have been on the school board since May 2016, I was interested in joining the school board as I wanted to engage in strategic decisions within our School.

I am driven by the opportunity to work with others and the wider community in achieving the best academic, social and emotional outcomes for all Piara Waters PS students.

I have been Manager Corporate Services at Piara Waters for 18 months and have worked for the Department of Education for close to 20 years.

I made the decision to move to the city for my children’s secondary education and to pursue professional growth, but I regularly return home to the country.

Part of my role is to work in collaboration with the Principal and/or Leadership Team to provide operational input to the development of the school’s Business and Marketing Plans and monitor the school’s financial performance against these plans.

Joining the school board has provided me with the opportunity to work closely with parent and community representatives and respond to requests for information in my area of expertise directly.  I enjoy working in such a diverse school community and love contributing to create a positive community in which our students can learn and grow.

I have been teaching at Piara Waters PS since February 2017 after graduating from Curtin University in 2016. Prior to finishing my Bachelor in Early Childhood Education I was an educator in early learning centers for over 10 years. During this time I held the position of Educational Leader, mentoring educators to gain their qualifications and supporting the direction and further growth of the early learning centers. In my younger years I worked as an au pair in both London and Montreal.

I am an enthusiastic teacher and look forward to the experience and community engagement being on the school board will bring.

I am committed to supporting the continual growth of PWPS and being involved in the strategic decisions and direction of the school. In my spare time I love to travel and experience various cultures, the diversity they bring and the exciting food tasting opportunities.

I have worked for the Department of Education since 2012 and have been at Piara Waters PS since 2014 commencing as a Part-time Front Office School Officer. My part-time role was re-structured in 2016 to Media Communications and Community Engagement. Although I am not a School Board member, I provide Administrative Assistance to the School Board and all their activities. I am the contact person for School Board inquiries.

Prior to working with the Department of Education, I worked for the Department of Education and Training (TAFE). I have a love of learning and strongly believe in the value of high quality education.

I enjoy working in a role that supports children obtaining a high quality education and also being able to share our student’s activities online with their hard working parents.
